JSA and Method Statement

“A sequence of steps taken to complete a task in a safe manner, it should be written by a person that is competent in the task”
The Job Safety Analysis (JSA) is a step-by-step guide, use to explain in detail the steps that must be taken by the worker to ensure the task is carried out safely, and include all relevant details in the order that you expect them to be carried out.
A work method statement, sometimes called a "safe system of work", is a document that details the way a work task or process is to be completed and predominately used in construction to describe a document that gives specific instructions on how to safely perform a work related task, or operate a piece of plant or equipment.
It is part of a workplace safety plan to advise employees and contractors on how to perform work related tasks safely

This statement ensure that everyone is aware of what is going on, and is used in building and construction as a way to assess what hazards may come up on the job and deal with them safely.

A work method statement is prepared for each task on a particular worksite. They are then packaged and included in the overall Construction Safety Plan. This plan (or document) is normally submitted at the beginning of a project for approval by the client or their representative.
When a method statement is prepared, the risks are identified during the work sequence.
Steps taken to reduce the risk are then determined, then a series of steps are written down that are to be followed by the person or persons carrying out the works.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of this training, persons should be able to;
• Know when and why would you do a JSA or safe work method statement?
• Describe briefly of the works, task or process.
• Summarize the main hazards that are present and the control measures that must be implemented.
• Explain in detail the steps that must be taken to ensure the task is carried out safely.
