Toolbox Talks

Toolbox Talks or Safety Briefings (sometimes called) are formal and informal group discussions intended to facilitate health and safety on the job site.

These discussions are focused particularly on safety issues, and are short presentations to the workforce on a single or multiple aspects of health and safety which can be used daily to promote a positive worksite safety culture,

These discussions help to keep health and safety at the forefront in the minds of workers to make them aware of current risks and hazards associated with their task.

Toolbox Talks have great impact when held regularly and allow the workers to relate to the topics that were covered, and also make them aware of current risks and hazards associated with their task ahead.

Daily safety briefings by supervisors to workers, help to foster a good health and safety culture while exploring the risks of specific health and safety issues on the worksite, and generating thoughts about ways to deal with them.

Toolbox talks are an easy way for foremen and supervisors to supplement the Occupational Safety and Health Authority training efforts of their company on the worksite, and to keep safety front and centre in their workers' minds. These short formal/informal safety meetings are designed to heighten employee awareness of worksite hazards and Occupational Safety and Health Authority regulations. They are not intended to take the place of formal Occupational Safety and Health Authority safety training for workers, but to supplement it.
